despite the post-industrial label often affixed to factory floor, there is a greater complexity of sound within the bands music that defies such facile descriptions. yes, there are rigid, fixed beats, and other sounds from the manufacturing plant, as suggested by the trios moniker. but there is also an underlying danceability that belies the seeming austerity of the sound, a hint at warmth that cuts through the permafrozen exterior. that curious balance has paid endless dividends thus far: they have been remixed by producer gavin russom, liars angus andrew and no ages dean allen, remixed and released by optimo, remixed and collaborated live with throbbing gristle legend chris carter, and remixed and produced (!) by joy division and new orders stephen morris. its been a whirlwind few years in terms of musical accolades, and factory floors dfa debut is a glimpse into why.

here comes the second part of french team lowkey & kardinals electrovino series!
the first part is nicely rockin the floors around the globe and found its way into many cases (or better said file-lists) of many djs from small to big! the second part follows the path with another rocker called oroborus (the name taken from an ancient greek tale of a dragon eating his own tail !) with a kind of tech-housy but techno bangin feel to it, bringing back the old casio organ sound. followed by two versions of indian summer, one in its more smoother original version and the second in a very nice prime time techno version by kardinal himself!

studio one women is the latest in the series of studio one compilations released by soul jazz records. ska, rocksteady, funky reggae, roots, dub mixes, disco mixes, they are all here from the queens of the jamaican music scene. studio one women features a wide mix of classics and obscurities from the finest female voices in reggae. until now most of these tracks have only ever been available as extremely hard to find jamaican 7 inch and 12 inch singles and even if you were lucky enough to find them they d cost you a small fortune! marcia griffiths and rita marley (here with her first group the soulettes) are two of jamaicas most famous female singers hugely popular today. both these artists became internationally famous as the i – threes (along with judy mowatt), bob marleys backing singers alongside the wailers. also featured are hortense ellis, sister of alton who cut many smash hit on the island and jennifer lara, a lady who had a long career with studio one, singing on countless sides until she sadly passed away earlier this year. studio one is the greatest label in the history of reggae and is the foundation of all reggae music. it is where virtually every world renowned jamaican superstar started out, bob marley and the wailers included. under the guidance of the legendary clement >coxsone< dodd the musicians at studio one recorded hundreds of instrumental rhythms which still provide the backbone for many of the records made in jamaica today.

coeter one shows two tracks in perfect style of the label. nutempo vinyl records means high-quality of minimal techno. sounds clean, modern and dark. repetitiveness that joins cadenced rhythms, perfect for the dancefloor. never boring and always something unexpected. the remix of >dreesch< signed by veteran mike wall (der hut, aspekt, eins plus, etc.) is decidedly more techno, sounds coming from deep, riffs that seem to remember an old school .. but fresh and strong. the version of >lankow< signed dubit (eminor) is essential and deliberately directed to the dancefloor in the darkest moments.

hotflush presents a special collaboration between two modern-day techno innovators: paul woolford and psycatron. both maintaining an influential discography on labels such as planet e, intimacy, tresor, and bedrock, they have come together to produce >stolen<, a nine-minute techno excursion. utilising relentless, throbbing percussion that sizzles over growling, acidic synthesis and carefully placed samples, its presented in three distinct versions, introducing filter-swept chords in the dub mix, and an even deeper submersion in the second dub mix that perfectly eclipses the raw temperament of the original.

the second part of the ki split series is a feature of our homegrown talents christian loeffler and steffen kirchhoff. the two friends are part of the ki family since the beginning (loeffler was responsible for the first release on ki and kirchhoff for the third). both artist have a close connection in sound aesthetics and atmosphere, since they still inspire each other every day. on the ki split series 2 you can listen to christian loeffler and steffen kirchhoff experimenting with beautiful samples and underlining the whole piece with their unique sound structure. both in their respective very own romantic approach to deep, melancholic techno music.

the mysterious rod enterns the balans arena with an uncompromising, abstract techno affair. little can we tell you about this mysterious character. only that a famous dj from rodterdam is behind this alter ego and that he did a very well received ep on ben klocks klockworks earlier this year.
the music coming from this persona is one hundred percent puristic, stripped down, dj tool techno. with a capital t you have seen that right! no nonsense hypnotism as we rarely see it nowadays. three or four sounds per track, each pushed and stretched inside out for maximum result. these tunes are made for dark, strobe lid cellars or underground techno temples such as berghain.
techno is back and this is about as abstract and underground as it gets. we look forward to release more rod records in the future.

pirahnahead and diviniti, these names are synonymous with quality dance music. since 2004s >find a way< they have been two of dance musics most prolific songwriters (and even co-wrote a few songs for les nubians on their 2011 full length >nu revolution<). with each release they have provided powerful production, smooth vocals, angelic harmony, and overall, musical excellence. this time, the super collaborators return to the foreground with one of the best tracks of 2011, >(just like)a dream<. as the sixth release from whasdat music, this soothing track has been supported by the likes of vinny da vinci, ian friday, paris cesvette and neil pierce as well as phil asher (who included it on soul heavens miami sampler mix). also, joining in as remixers are charles webster and jose carretas. both have previously collaborated with pirahnahead & diviniti, topping charts on traxsource.com. its been two years since pawas gupta contributed an enchanting remix on sirions first vinyl release. constant communication and cooperation lead to this all in all accomplished project called >huis huis ep<. pawas productions start off smooth and impress with delightful elements and perpetual dynamic. the development of each track is rarely predictable. tempting the act of prolonged anticipation is a delicate one and leads further and further into remote realms. carried into the sec repetitive parts by finely tuned synth-boosts makes us realize the force briefly before being caught up in the hypnotic sounds again. propelling deep house with a pinch of funk and a touch of detroit - the classic yet brilliant pawas style! moon harbours chris lattner needs no long introductions. releases on nrk, einmaleins, fear of flying and luna records speak for themselves, are proof of a successful and active time. the dry yet truly ideal base frame for subtle but succinct modules for this remix is its effective substance. the static sub bass, fulminate and with an enormous thrust, is reminiscent of the miami bass age - virtuous modulations, the very complexion of mr lattner. he remains true to himself, we like!

1 track each from area, hakim murphy, and murdoc, + bonus remix. the 2 on a lean more toward the stoner side, the b is all murdoc focusing more on the beats. the past year has seen area dropping solo records for francois ks wave music, anton zaps ethereal sound, and brendon moellers steadfast recordings. with songs described as >guaranteed to create a special mood in a club< (resident advisor) and >warm, shoegaze-dreamy but floor-ready pop< (little white earbuds), areas heady productions tread the line between functionality and abstraction. hakim is a producer/dj from the chicagoland area whos musical style ranges from house to techno. hakims journey begin as a dancer in chicago as a lot of his musical influences come from larry heard, robert armani, dance mania, relief, and cajual records. as a chicago footwork dancer, hakim gradually became inspired by the music and began playing records in 1996. since then hakim has ventured into production work and eventually founded two records labels in 2008: machining dreams, and synapsis records with avondale music society. hakims discography includes releases on metamorphic, planet detroit, and stolen kisses. murdoc is a dj/producer and current member of the condiment dj-collective, hosting events featuring the likes of acid circus, sammy dee (perlon), and mark henning.

b-tracks, aka soren jahan & john barera release their debut ep on their new imprint. the two musicians and record collectors worked together to make >specialize<, a rolling house cut made for the dancefoor & road tested at their gigs. with >day to night<, they go deep with a warm and melodic tune that still makes you get up. their rough and ready production style continues to shine in house workout >jump on it<.
on the flip, >progress< is a relentless techno cut with a raw analog sound and a mind of its own. finishing off the record is >your love<, a climactic and synth driven track in the spirit of early electronic dance music.

after this years releases on mule electronic and smallville lawrence is back on coowned laid imprint with a real house music series- never as always. as a favorite in carsten josts cd-r box the main title rise seemed to be one of the magic deephouse tunes wether it was at the dial allnighter residency panorama bar, the laid nights at cookies berlin or some fancy hangout at the labelchiefs appartment. now for the first time only on vinyl never as always (pt.1) comes up with two dub versions by sten who hasnt shown up since ages.

new year deal - purveyors of maximal minimalism in bass music, crushington explore the mid-tempo soundworld of dubstep. inspired to step outside of their box by a face-melting new years eve performance from skream and benga, for the last two years, crushington have sonically sculpted their own, well-received take on dubstep. lacking a developed knowledge of the genre, their unaffected explorations into different tempos and grooves have caught ears everywhere, leading to dj support from n-type, jakes, emalkay, distance, seven, truth, bulletproof, datsick, excision, hatcha and headhunter. along the way, they have collaborated with, or remixed for black sun empire, spl, truth, optimus gryme and bulletproof. with high profile support and collaborations boiling over left right and centre and several boutique vinyl releases to their credit, dj bookings across new zealand and australia have come quickly and to lauded receptions. old school producers and djs from the era of vinyl and by ear engineering, their sonic fidelity has seen their crushington tunes described by the likes of antiserum as the perfect studio mixdown reference. to put it in simpler terms, crushingtons subwoofer rupturing arrangements are fast becoming a standard setter with in the international dubstep community, where things go next from here though, only time will tell.

after being wowed by christian smiths superb remix of carl craigs >at les< the legendary underworld listed it as one of their tunes of 2010 thereby planting a seed in the veteran producers mind. a mutual appreciation and the aforementioned events have resulted in smiths biggest remix yet – the reworking of underworlds seminal >dark & long<. coming in two versions, both of which have won immense support from the band themselves, the christian smith remixes of >dark & long< take the track in to new territories respectfully and skilfully. the tronic treatment mix preserves the vibe of the original perfectly while adding a condensed but slow burning feeling of tension which explodes into the epic break we all know and love. the hypnotica dub version underpins karl hydes classic vocal refrain and the rich synths of the original with an ever-changing, guttural monster of a bassline that adds a whole load of understated aggression without ever taking over the wonderful melodies.
